Is MR an Important Station to Include in Paces?
The mitral valve is unique to the four heart valves in that its structure and function is determined by the left ventricle itself. Any heart disease of the left venticle can cause mitral regurgitation, so it's very common. If you take patients who have been hospitalized with any heart condition, then mitral Regurgitation will be found in something like 15% to 20% of that group. We've published work in the community setting where GPs are worried about the heart, they're not knowing what's wrong with the heart, and we find mitralRegurgitation in 11% or 12%.
