What Is Cryoprecipitat?
There's a belief that storing platelets at anything other than room temperature can be harmful to them. Temperature streams, extremes, either cooling or actually warming affects their function. Platelets are considered the highest risk product for transfusion-related bacterial infections because they're just sitting there incubating on the shelf. Cryo is a collection of specific proteins and factors from the plasma. The remaining plasma turns into this weird product called cryo-poor plasma which is sometimes given to TTP patients and some other specific uses, but otherwise gets tossed.
