Is There a Mask in the Animation?

The purpose of the mask is sort of to interrupt any processing that happens between you seeing the last frame of the image and you making a response. People misremember an un-melting ice cube as more un-melted than it really was, which we've tested in some sub-dependent experiments. But at least I think this raises some new questions about what's going on with our memory. And maybe I'll even drop a free experiment idea for anyone who wants to explore this further.
