The Danites and Mormonism
The Mormon War of 1838 began with a simple fist fight on election day. Joseph Smith gave free reign to Samson Avard, who would eventually result in a massacre decades later. When you form a secret military society made up of justifiably paranoid people, it's not going to take long before it blows up in your face. The Danites set the Mormons apart from regular folk by claiming that the Mormons were the true House of Israel and therefore fair game.
