The Dark Years of Mary's Seizures
Mary Roth was born in 1847, and she had her first seizure at 6 months old. The family moved from Indiana to Texas when she was about 10. By the time they moved to Illinois, she was having them at least once a day. This was before even the earliest anti-epileptic drugs, such as potassium bromide. Mary's preferred method of choice: leeches.
