If you're going to be a leader, especially a data product leader, you need to understand the business as well. How does it make money? How does it lose money? Who are the customers? Especially if you're actually, your customer is like an internal business stakeholder. It's not an actual paying customer because you're working on internal decision support applications. They might expect you to know more about this, and maybe they feel that you don't.
