The Chartered Market Technicians Association began in the late 1960s with a small team of sell side equity research analysts. The group wanted some professional recognition and to distinguish what they did from what was available to retail consumers. These folks were macroeconomists. They were statisticians. But that discipline of studying the message of the market really needed some clarification, standardization.
