The Summer of London
I see that summer as being a moment of London holding its breath in a really quite dramatic way. People were expecting plague again, because it had happened the previous year. In August, Ren was at the top of St Paul's doing a survey with John evil in the diarist. The king wanted a continuation of Inigo Jones's renovation of what was actually a nearly derelict 16th century cathedral. And you also have, which I keep returning to, the scientists also up St Paul's do experiments with long pendula and all sorts of other barometric experiments with the heights of St Paul’s.
