By all accounts, hearing him speak was an amazing event to see him in person and hear him speak in the lecture hall. He writes with command and with the kind of mastery of language and rhetoric that great political writers like Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill had. In some ways, I was reminded of say a saffo whose poems we have, but not her music that went along with them. We only get part of the effect.
