meditation and concentration are two things that really reinforce one another. Concentration is a form of mental discipline where yo you train your mind to be able to stay concentrated on something. We use the breath because the breath comes and goes, no matter where you are or what you're doing. And so it becomes a particularly useful object of concentration - especially when you're starting out.
