Political Prisoners in the Tower of London
Political prisoners at the tower of london would normally end in a public execution. By the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the tower had become the most important prison in England. The phrase being sent to the tower has become another way of saying being imprisoned, being put in prison, even to day. Henry the eighth imprisoned two of his queens, anne boleyn and catherine howard, in the tower before having them executed. In the late fifteenth century, the tower is thought to have become the final gruesome resting place for two boys to royal princes.
