Inertial confinement fusion is based on the concept of taking some hydrogen ice, so sweet, tenderium, and tritium. Those are the heavier versions of hydrogen because they have a higher cross-section for fusion reacting. It's actually sort of analogous to an inert internal combustion engine in that regard.
