Harvey and Lori Bludorn: Formal arithmetic at age 10, hurried or delayed. Art Robinson's experience has been that children are very able to come in and basically just start with fifth grade math and succeed. The widespread use of calculating tables and counting machines, abacus shows that not many people could add up. This goes on being true even in educated circles.
