The Groove of a Strong Song

The song is in the key of D major, though the recording actually sits somewhere in between D and E flat. The thump is down low, that's something to anchor the groove. The pop is higher up that usually offsets the thump so when a drum set those two functions are generally fulfilled by the kick drum and the snare drum. Just by changing the high hat we've gone from standard 4-4 rock to what's called a 12-8 shuffle. A lot of tears for Fierce Songs were pretty dark but this song is all about the Cold War and human quest for corruption.
