New Work in Digital Humanities

CHAPTER

The End of Books

I think what has obviously been increasingly clear is that as we move into the digital era, all those aspects of our previous era will survive in a different relationship. I mean, students coming through now are much more comfortable on the screen than they are on paper. They would rather read something, look it up, Google it up, but then go to the library and try to find it. So I'm sure we're into some kind of change. For those of us who love books as I do, it is a disturbing time. My feeling was a little bit self-defense to get in here and know what the enemy is up to.
