There are echoes of plenty in Macbeth when the battles lost and won. So in one's loss is another's win. And in your win today surely this would imply that someday your fortune will change. The witches then are surely less prophetic and in fact dealing with the past rather than the future. When the past is interpreted as the future our fate is already sealed isn't it? Maybe somewhere there is an audience watching the events unfold around us with knowledge of what's going to happen before it does.
