In the early 19 thirties, stallin had danced his paulet bureau quadrille with ruthless agility. Stallin aimed his great purge at all levels of soviet society. Up at the top, he aimed to eliminate lenin's thin stratum of old bolsheviks. The middle group also included pretty much anyone who got a college education before the revolution. And then last but certainly not least, because they felt it the most, we had the general masses.
