Decabolas saw the Romans coming from a mile away and set an ambush at the narrow pass of Tapi. He watched in horror as the entire fifth legion was cornered and massacred,. Then watched in humiliation as the legionary standard of the Praetorian Guard was captured and hauled off by the enemy. In 88 the deissions and Romans once again found themselves facing off at Tapi. Though this time the Romans did not stumble blindly into any traps and the Kabbelus was soundly beaten.
