Charles Whitman's Story

Charles Joseph Whitman was an engineering student at the University of Texas Austin. He killed himself with a Remington Model 700 long-range rifle on June 24th, 1963. His mother had just left him his father two months earlier due to domestic violence and he resented her for moving away from their home in Lake Worth Florida. The day before Charles shot dead 17 people including six police officers as well as wounding more than 20 others. In addition to being one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history there were also several unanswered questions surrounding what exactly happened that evening.
