The Flesh Is the Antithesis of Love
In the moment augustine called the flesh, love turned in on itself. It is an act of the will to put another person's good ahead of your own even if it comes at great cost. To say to them through your attitude, you are beautiful. Your flesh and mine does not want to do that. That's a lot of work, and the flesh is lazy. And the flesh is all about right here, right now. It just wants to feel good.
