In the 1960s, scientists found that being angry is a dopamine hit without having to do anything. Anger feels good at a low level because it puts us into a state of activation and relaxation. We may not like limbic friction but human beings seem to love the feeling of being pissed off just a little bit. And I think we can all get drawn down these paths where you can spend all day in a battle in your head over what's going on around you.
