The Path to Re-Learning Hebrew

Peter Matthiessen learned Hebrew as a kid and then forgotten it. He went to Jerusalem for the summer, where he took an intensive language instruction class. His brother had been killed in a car crash just days before; that marked his entire entry into re-learning Hebrew. "Some kind of, some sort of doubling took place in my life is a very much a translational moment," says Matthiessen.
