In mixture models, they talk about two general kinds of applications. The direct application is trying to discover subgroups in the population. But the indirect are to say, hey, we've got this kind of cool way that we can differentially wait multiple normal distributions to recreate this non-normal distribution. That's a direct application. And here's the big thing that would be consistent with an interaction between the latent factors.
