Tipping points are those points at which a system has pushed so far that it starts to irreversibly tip into a new state. Four big tipping element systems are likely to cross their tipping point already at 1.5 degrees Celsius. Nearing any one of these tipping points would be cause for serious alarm. The risk breaching all four should surely call for an immediate transformation of our economic priorities. It's not enough to just phase out fossil fuels. We also need, even for a safe climate landing, to come within planetary boundaries. This is the only chance for us to hold on to 1.5.
