The government of gabon has decided to protect these forests by creating a system of national parks on ten percent of its land. Lee says the decision to create the national park set the direction for gabon's future. The congo basin is really the heart and lungs of the african continent, and the rain forests are maintaining peace and stability. Without these forests, there would be no rain fall, and there would be tens of millions more climate refugees than weare already seeing to day.
