The Second Purgation of the Penitent
The first means for undertaking this second purgation is to grasp vividly and vigorously the great injury we suffer through sin. In this way we will allauce for ourselves deep and fervent contrition. So too, when the penitent hates his sin only with a light, though true, contrition, he indeed resolves to sin no more. However, when he despises it with powerful and vigorous contrition, then he not only detests sin, but also despises all desire forSin. If you practice them assiduously, you will find with the help of God's grace you will be able to root out of your heart all sin with its main desires.
