The Role of Polite Language in Second Language Speakers
I think it's a mistake to say that if you're not Japanese you don't need to use Japanese to the fullest extent. So from my concern, working with research participants and interviewing them about their experiences in the workplace and in their local communities. My concern is that if a second language speaker doesn't use Japanese politeness to some extent they are more likely to be treated as an outsider. But hopefully that gets us maybe away from the original point of the question into it a little bit.
