In some straightforward sense, you have a built-in interpretive system that's extraordinarily deeply embedded and invisible. I think the clearest answer to that is that it's a story that you live inside a story. And we've evolved story-like structures through which to interpret the world. They're true at least insofar as they mean that here we are living after three and a half billion years of evolution.
