In 2021 Virat stepped down as RCB captain. He also announced that he would no longer be India's T20 captain after the World Cup. Soon he gave up test leadership too, setting himself up for a new phase in his career. In his biggest critics would agree that as Indians skipper he changed the way we play our cricket. We were number one in the format for 42 months straight. Yet when people talk about his stint as a leader a lot is said about what he didn't do, about the series in tournaments he didn't win.
