Clark suggests that instead of anticipating nothingness at death, we should anticipate the subjective sense of always having been present. He then proposes a kind of rip fan winkle thought experiment. Imagine being put to sleep and then being awakened many years or even centuries later. You would still be you experiencing the continuity of consciousness but your circumstance in the world would be very different.
