We tend to think of kings as being invested with unlimited ultimate power and authority. But what this actually does, even if it's a little bit of a fallacy, is just reinforce the idea that it's a two-way relationship. You're getting all of this stuff, but we actually expect something back in return. Yes, it's a contract. And the monarch can't have these things without the people saying yes, you are our monarch.
