The group fell into a new way of working, which Peter Toreclaythedubbed mixed mode. They didn't go back to having tracks cut for them by session musicians. Pleasant Valley Sunday was written by Jerry Goughan and Carol King who had written several songs for the group's first two albums. The royalties from the song allowed Nelson to quit the job at the bank.
