What Does Obey Mean?

There is no ancient hebrew biblical word for obe. It's shama. We have a word for responding to and acting to the wishes of somebody who's in thority responsible for you, knows better than you. That's what obe means. And so actually, if you look on almost all our modern english translations, in exodus 19, verse four, they don't translate it. If you listen, what they translate it is, you obey.
