Nigeria's first black president, Goodluck Jonathan was born and raised in Lagos. He says he grew up seeing Africa as a place of wars, poverty and AIDS. The author has faced criticism for his novel which is not authentically African. But she insists that the single story of Africa ultimately comes from Western literature.
