What is Bushido?

--> Japanese word that literally means "warrior way".

Bushi: "warrior" = literally 'military + man'.
Do: road, or way

Bushido is also used as an overarching term for all the codes, practices, philosophies and principles of samurai culture.
Bushido formalized earlier samurai moral values and ethical code, most commonly stressing a combination of sincerity, frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery and honour until death
It allowed the violent existence of the samurai to be tempered by wisdom, patience and serenity
A code often unuttered to unwritten.
Requires a rite of passage, and in order to become a Samurai, one must master this code.
Variations by clan, by tribe and by territory.
