Our grid is like balancing a pencil vertically on your palm. It can only absorb a certain amount of solar or wind. The Texas grid, which is not connected to the rest of the American grid, went down just from a little period of cold weather. We have a super cold wave right now hitting the United States today at minus 70 degrees. And so you need unstoppable power on 24 hours a day to stabilize a grid that is designed to accept intermittent power such as solar and wind. You either have to build giant batteries at grid scale, which is doable, but needs a lot of investment. Or you need nuclear power or geothermal power.
