A New Approach to Cognitive Approaches to AI

Mike Levin has this concept of a multi-scale competency architecture where at every scale, there's a high degree of competency on their own. And so top down signals modulate behavior, but they don't control it. So we're interacting with AI systems that are themselves pretty competent systems at what they do. But I also think that the idea of using living systems as problem-solving devices is very interesting.
