Democracy in the 20s and 30s

In the 20s and 30s democracy was a very fragile flower which was in infertile soil. It was swept away by authoritarian leaders coming to the fore in so many countries. Democracy was not established in Europe at that time in the way that it has been since the second world war. We don't see anything quite like that today but we do see democracy being undermined from within by politicians populist politicians who claim to be democrats themselves.
