I think of it as these two extremes where the cheap experiments can be worthwhile, but they are a way to learn. And then if you actually want to do something that's going to be successful, there's a good chance you really have to make it the best in the world. At the same time, I agree that I think the process of getting there requires and is benefited from experimentation. You don't want to be embarrassed by the first version of your product because you have to leave out key features.
