The Leaning Tower of Pisa
In Italy they have that place called Pisa and they have the leaning tower of Pisa. It just means sort of not standing straight, but standing to one side. So he was leaning back too much to lean. He landed with a lot of his weight on the back, on the tail of the board. And this meant that he was slightly off balance. We don't say 'on balance' to mean that your weight is distributed properly. But if you're slightly off balance, it means that your weight isn't properly distributed and you might fall over.
