Radical forty eters saw themselves as a thin wedge to revolutionize american society from within, with the project of overthrowing slavery as the first. After the war, a village wrote a pamphlet about military reform in his vision for what america's military should look like after the war. And it was to abolish west point, abolish all the officers, a training academies and replace them with citizen militias composed of civilians.
