The Land Is Ours
The land is ours, there's freedom that comes from working one's own land. The poem rings poorly to the modern ear. To jingoistic, to rah rah. That encompasses nationalism and patriotic duty for sure. It also encompasses civic and social duty, which is how I mean it. This is the price of civilization, that we allow ourselves to be the lands. It's a price worth paying.
