Introduction

This chapter discusses the power vacuum in the Western Roman Empire and the struggle for recognition among its leaders in the aftermath of Avedus's execution, with both the Eastern Emperor Marcian and Leo the Thracian refusing to acknowledge Majorian and Rickammer as legitimate rulers.
