"i was really struck by the way that biofilms it's very hard to differentiate whether they're unicellular aggregates or if they're a multicellular organism and we like to be able to put them in the bin of well a biofilm is an agglomeration of individual bacteria but i don't think that's totally accurate," she says. "There is a sense of intention in the biofilm where there are different layers and they're doing different things." She adds: "Viruses are a really fascinating example you bring up the specialization feature of complex organisms too which is quite fascinating"
