The Risks to a Kidney Donor
The longer the kidney is out of the body on ice or being pumped with cold solution, the higher the risk that the kidney won't work right away. If you have a living donor next to you in the OR, those kidneys tend to work immediately. Patients need to be of consenting age above the age of 18,. 21 in some hospitals. They have to be considered stable from a medical and psychological perspective.
