If there is only one woman on for example a speaker panel you can ask the organisers if they can provide a woman's share at least or suggest that some women participants be invited to give their views. It would be really nice to think that pretty soon a good gender balance at UKELT events was so normal that our fearless wasn't needed anymore but the history of all kinds of civil rights movements shows us that progress can slip back into regress very very quickly if pressure is not maintained.
