I think we would be in up to our ears in Syria with major ground forces if we had Hillary Clinton elected in 2008 rather than Barack Obama. Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, respectively, are severely testing that thesis simply because income distribution has become so out of whack. I think we may have reached an inflection point where there's broad consciousness but they can't necessarily connect the dots.
