The Son of Splendor - A Novel of the King's Own
In May 1464, three years after their bloody defeat, the beleaguered Henry and Margaret mount an operation to take the fight back to King Edward IV. But this last ditch attempt fails when they are defeated at Hexen in Northumberland. In contrast to this overwhelming image of vigour presented by Edward, the frail, deposed Henry is once more the victim of Yorkist spin. They paint him as a feeble, cold figure sheltered by England's enemy, the Scots with his French queen and bastard son. With resistance shattered, Edward hopes to consolidate his reign and his legacy.
