The Great Reversal
Ovid is literally calling on the gods to inspire, to breathe life into his book. Professor campbell notes that pythagoras was a contemporary of the buddha and remarks that something very interesting was going on in the world at that time. Around the sixth century comes the great reversal, and buddha begins to point out that life is escapably sorrowful for humans. And death was no longer viewed as a continuance of the wonder of life, but as a rescue from its pain.
