Solzhenitsyn's Ascent

Solzhenitsyn rejected the ideology of progress, or especially the idea that technological and material progress was co-extensive with an increase in wisdom and goodness in human beings. He came to discover through suffering and reflection that the good and evil divides every human heart; it's impossible to expunge them from the world as all modern ideological projects attempt to do. Solzhenitsyn: One true progress is the possibility for spiritual self-improvement on the part of individuals no longer accepting the copout version of sin.
